Timesheets for Night Shifts

We have introduced a PM shift which is 2pm-12am but if an employee clocks out just after 12am the timesheet automatically splits to the next day. I thought amending the works pattern might correct this but was unsuccessful and access advise it's not possible to clock a shift across midnight without spanning across two days. This means that timesheets need to be manually updated each day. It would be could to see a functionality that could support night shift working clocks.
