From 1 Jan 2026, we will be changing our holiday process so that bank holidays are included as part of the entitlement. This means people don't have to take bank holidays. It is very frustrating that this cannot be set up in advance. To remove bank holidays, I'll have to do that on 1st Jan 2026 and that's an issue because a large number of people will want to take the 1st Jan as holiday, but they won't be able to book it in advance, it will be automatic. It's makes us look like we haven't planned this properly, makes a benefit seem less valuable and creates more admin for us to manually record who will and won't be booking 1st Jan as a bank holiday.
We are following best practice by giving the team 3 months notice, but it looks poorly planned because we can't actually organise all the changes in advance.That means we have to find work rounds and then will have to rely on the team to update the changes themselves after the fact.
