Be able to do a query on Company Documents

Whilst trying to set up a Ripple to alert Managers that a new policy has been uploaded to 'Company Documents' I have come to realise that you can't even do a query on any Company Documents at all! So I can't see when a policy was uploaded, by whom or what it was! Seems like this makes no sense.
