Unsubscribing from the messages in the chat box on the main screen

Every few days there is a little pop up in the chat box function, and a little red symbol saying there's a new message. It is always an automated thing or some new course to sign up to that is irrelevant to my company. It won't go away and is annoying when you don't 'read' the messages or open them. I asked and there is no way to unsubscribe to this. I'd like a way to unsubscribe! I don't want the messages, they are annoying to have to click on so they don't then annoy me for the rest of the day.
