Currently when inputting an employee as sick you have to put a start and end date, would be better for end date not to be mandatory, and to be added once the employee's sickness ends.
Leaving as an open sickness the manager and admin know the employee is sill absent and sickness needs to continue to be monitored/acttioned.
When adding currently have to review and update daily to maintain accurate sickness data.

I agree with this totally. Our previous HRIS had the open sickness facility and it allowed us to monitor sickness effectively. With the end dated added at the outset, the return-to-work process will be triggered before we know if the employee has returned or not.
Our team has been having issues with the required end date element! We integrated it with our Payroll system, and because the end date is recorded when processing an individual's pay, any amendments would instantly be rejected by Payroll.
I would find this functionality really useful!
